Introduction of the photographer Chun Wai is a freelance independent photographer based in Hong Kong, his motherland.
Graduated in Mulhouse Arts College of France, Chun started his career as an arts teacher. He then returned to Hong Kong and worked as the Senior Photographer and Chief Photographer of Hong Kong Film Bi-weekly, Hong Kong Economic Times and Ming Pao Daily News. Over the 16 years in the media industry, Chun’s covered various major events in Asia, including the Handover of Sovereignty of Hong Kong 1997, Taiwan President Election, Asian Economic Crisis, Southern Asian Tsunami, SARS, World Trade Organization Conference 2005, Sichuan Earthquake and Beijing Olympics 2008. As the winner of numerous news photo awards and human rights press awards, his profession is widely recognized.
The photographic perspective of Chun lies in his humanistic vision in interpreting the changing world. Starting from 2000, Chun has been traveling over different parts of Asia. Every appealing moment captured in his camera carries his care for the poverty, and the victims of wars across different cultural and economic plights. Impact of global climate changes on human survival is another topic Chun concerns.
The fundamental key of Chun’s pieces is 6 X 6 B&W. He is particular good at depicting aura. His photos are artistic, implicit, and with sedate composition.
The photos showing in this exhibition are selected from Chun’s picture series “To Another Horizon” which captures the very moments of livelihood in different countries.
